Who I am

My name is Andy Boyle. I’m a senior news-editorial and broadcasting major at the University of Nebraska Lincoln taking a “victory lap” with my final year (read: fifth) of college. I spent two years as a music major before realizing 12-part tonal theory wasn’t for me, and now I’m a journalism dork.

Me

My main focus is on computer-assisted reporting and investigative reporting.

I’ve worked at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock, Ark., the Erie Times-News in Erie, Pa., and the Daily Nebraskan, the independent student newspaper on campus. I will be starting a fellowship in January with the Omaha World-Herald’s Lincoln bureau.

You can see my resume here.

I am an active member of the Investigative Reporters and Editors and I’m graduating in May.

As part of a class assignment for UNL’s College of Journalism and Mass Communication, I have created this blog which will detail computer-assisted reporting in both Nebraska and other states, preferably focusing on the Midwest.

I’m a big fan of incorporating computer-assisted reporting into even the simplest of projects, and I’d like to spread my minimal knowledge to others at the CoJMC, as well as explain how other reporters went about doing some of their projects.
